Have been in Buenos Aires for the past ten days, mainly hanging out and seeing friends. We've been eating out a lot. Two reasonably priced places I've enjoyed were Josefina, a parrilla at the corner of Gutierrez and Lafinur, and Rigoletto, with a varied menu, on Rodriguez Peña near the corner of Juncal. At Rigoletto I managed to leave my credit card behind after finishing dinner. I didn't notice that it was gone until two days later. We called the restaurant, which was the last place I remembered using the card, and sure enough they had it and had kept it for me. That saved me no end of hassles, so I definitely will be going back there!
By the way, lots of restaurants have prix fixe menus in place at lunchtime, and many at dinnertime, also. These can be good value. Usually they'll be advertised outside the restaurant, on a chalkboard or on a sign in the window, so it's fairly easy to see what's on offer before entering a restaurant that appeals to you.
Happy dining!

Last month to date (April 2010)-- I was in Buenos Aires for ten wonderful days. Because I traveled solo but had access to two outstanding guides (both certified and gay men)-- my being alone did not go for naught. On Sunday April 18, 2010, Marcelo and I managed to go to a very pleasant and delightful restaurant in Palermo (Soho I think) for brunch. I'd wanted to go to one restaurant where he'd made reservations but did not because it was virtually empty, and it didn't look as great in actuality as it did at its website.
Up the street was CLUNY where he'd wanted to take me. Unfortunately it was closed, so as we walked, I spotted a place where there were outside tables and chairs. One of the patrons was seated, and before her were the most gorgeous-looking empanadas. We went there. (CALDEN DEL SOHO, 4701 Honduras Street (corner of Malabia). We ordered the special steak (shared)-- salad--drinks--and two empanadas. The bill for two was under $40.00US, and even with our sharing the preceding items of the meal, except for the drinks (non alcoholic), it still was a great and inexpensive dining experience.
From this restaurant Marcelo and I took a taxi and ventured to the famous and my favorite "Fair" in San Telmo on a Sunday.
